How to Sell with Purpose and create captivating content to attract raving fans
It's too early in my journey to have all the answers in the world of marketing, but I can share what I have learnt and what resonates with me. (Incidentally, I can tell you with total confidence that SEO matters! I boosted traffic to our Magazine at work by 29% in less than three months with the seductive secrets of SEO).
How to Sell with Purpose
All of humanity is 100% equal when it comes to our souls, but the beauty of life is that we're all motivated or inspired by different things.
What motivates humans? At the core, you can break this down to pain or pleasure; however, what is pleasurable to one person is painful to another.
For example, some people get energy from being in a room of 100 people, yet, it's my idea of hell (too much noise drains me). I would much rather read a book or take a walk FAR away from humanity.
I'm a warm and social person in small bursts, but I like to go quiet to find inspiration and recharge my batteries. I grew up in the English countryside before it was unsafe to roam around without parental supervision, and for years, our closest neighbour was a mile away (and we loved it!).
We're all driven by different things, goals and seasons. But no matter the season, the best way to hold onto motivation (in my opinion) is to approach life without forcing things to happen now (it will happen when it's supposed to) and by cultivating a growth mindset.
I digress! I'm here today to share what I believe truly motivates an audience once you have their attention.
The first step is to attract an audience, and then you need to motivate them to stick around.
At the core, copywriting and marketing aim to motivate an audience to buy a product or service or to opt-in. It's the overall purpose of marketing.
But there's a higher purpose.
You will spot a pattern if you read or listen to anything from Marie Forleo, Brendon Burchard, Tony Robbins, Marina De Giovanni, Kat Koroy, Sarah Blakely, Tim Stoddart, Ru Paul, Dean Graziozi, Richard Brunson, Laura Belgray, Tasmin Henderson, Jamie Varon, Prerna & Mayank Malik.
They are all thought leaders who are transforming the way the world looks at marketing.
When you peel away the different things they talk about and the unique ways they all teach, it basically boils down to viewing marketing as having a higher purpose.
Principles to attract and sustain a dream audience
Principle #1
Sales is service (you've been called to serve an audience of people who share your core values—you can help them by generously sharing your unique skills).
Principle #2
Take time to discover who you will serve.
How? Lean into your values, beliefs and vision and share them with the world.
Who? Attract people who align with your personal and business values—it's the key to serving at your highest level.
What's the benefit? If you market to people who share your values, you'll be excited to work with them, as there will be no resistance or objections in the process. Everything will start to flow. So it's worth spending some time to define who YOU want your soul audience to be (you wouldn't hang out with Prince Harry or Justin Bieber in a bar, so why are you trying to appeal to their avatar type in your copy?)
Principle #3
Create a tribe, community or movement from a heart-centred space (even if you only have ONE person in your club).
Principle #4
Focus on providing extra value and think about your depth of implementation. In other words, why are you different from everyone else?
Principle #5
Try and cultivate Blue Ocean Thinking and craft Blue Ocean copy. Richard Brunson talks about Blue Ocean Thinking in Expert Secrets—How can you package your USPs or your product's USPs (unique selling points) in a way that's different from everyone else on the market?
Copywriters have the knack for turning the features of a product into benefits that appeal to the market, but this principle goes even deeper. You want your copy to resonate with your audience on a soul level (not just an emotional one).
In conclusion
You don't have to agree with my perspective, but if you're struggling to attract and retain an audience (especially one you want to work with), you may want to reevaluate what your values are and whether you're sharing them with the world to attract an audience that's right for you.
It's sometimes tough to find people in the real world who share your perspective, but it's so much easier in the online space (thousands of people are searching for like-hearted souls just like you).
So many people these days waste time looking for like-minded souls. In my humble opinion, you dilute your human expression by only interacting with people with the same viewpoints on life. Look for people who are like-hearted and open to new ideas—that's where the magic of growth and connection lives (and that's how you can spread your light with the world).
